A smart sink lid designed by students from Cuiyuan Middle School in Luohu has recently won awards at municipal and provincial-level innovation contests.

The sink lid has sensors, a solar power panel, a battery, and telecommunication units. It can exercise real-time monitoring of the water level in the sink and send pre-warnings to the offices in charge of preventing and controlling city floods.

Before they initiated the project, the students went to Shenzhen Water Group to examine problems with the current sink lids.

They hope the smart sink lids can help the city better protect its people from the city floods that have become increasingly unpredictable and more vehement due to climate change.
