109-year-old woman takes her first jab in Luohu
China Central Television reported that a 109-year-old woman took a jab of the COVID-19 vaccine in Luohu on April 27. She is the oldest person to be vaccinated against the virus on the Chinese mainland.
The woman surnamed Lin took her first dose of the vaccine at the Cuizhu community rehabilitation center. Lin said she did not feel any discomfort after the injection.
Lin’s grandson, who is surnamed Chen, said that her grandma thinks taking vaccines is a scientific way to fight against the virus, and she wants to do her part to defeat the virus so that everyday lives can be recovered at an early date.
The Luohu district government hopes more older adults can follow suit and receive vaccinations as soon as possible, which proves important in reducing severe cases and COVID-19 deaths, as shown in many hard-hit regions.
