Luohu's water management becomes 'smart'
The Luohu authorities organized a publicity activity to raise awareness of water saving and water resource protection.
They take full advantage of hi-technology to improve water management efficiency. Also, they encourage the "river chiefs," grassroots civil servants in charge of water environment protection in rivers, lakes, and reservoirs.
Luohu launched the first "smart water" comprehensive supervision platform in Guangdong province, comprehensively monitoring river water quality, drainage outlets, and rainwater pipe wells.
The system can realize 24-hour uninterrupted automatic monitoring of water quality, timely detection of pollutant discharge, sewage intrusion, and other problems. In addition, the technology can help achieve real-time analysis of rainfall and improve the effectiveness of drainage management.
Luohu has 15 rivers, whose lengths total 54.33 kilometers. All 24 water quality monitoring spots along the rivers in the district reached the level V in the national standard and above, and 87.5% of the surface water in Luohu reached the level III.
The picturesque Luohu Donghu Wetland Park, where many local residents enjoy their time, is the epitome of Luohu's environmental protection and ecological preservation achievements.
Behind the beautiful natural environment is Luohu's resolve to promote the construction of ecological civilization while pursuing socio-economic development.
Last year, the Luohu authorities fined water polluters 1.09 million yuan ($171,000) in 122 cases.
In the future, Luohu will accelerate its construction of the so-called "sponge city." A sponge city is an urban area designed to cope with excess rainfall.
Also, the district will build six greenways along the Wutongshan River and its branches, Zhengkeng River and Qingshui River, and around the Huanyinhu Reservoir.
