Luohu pilots chores homework for students
Learning to do housework has become winter vacation homework for students in Luohu.
The Luohu Education Science Institute, together with technicians of Tencent, launched a program on Jan. 21 that encourages the students to do various chores.
The program was first piloted by Xiangxi Primary School, Luohu Foreign Language Junior Middle School, and Luohu Middle School, and will last until Feb. 10. According to the organizers, the objective of this project is to improve life skills among adolescents and relieve their educational burden.
This activity relies on Luohu’s intelligent education cloud platform, which realizes resource sharing and enhances communication and interaction between teachers and students.
The families are expected to record the students as they do the housework and upload videos to the platform for exhibition and evaluation.
Li Xiaolan, deputy director of the Office of Academic Affairs of Luohu Middle School, said that with the cloud platform in place, proof and evaluation of the chores has been much more convenient.
A student surnamed Zhan from the school said that the video of his classmates doing housework on the platform has spurred him on to do more housework at home.
Through this program, children have learned cooking, washing clothes and taking care of plants, among others, and raised their awareness on caring for others.
Based on both discussions among the researchers and technicians and a questionnaire among teachers and students of 42 primary and middle schools in Luohu, the design, contents, and requirements of the activities for students of different age groups vary.
