Cultural landmark buildings a welcomed addition to Luohu’s urban renovation
Luohu has been fostering its cultural sector in recent years, with a group of buildings that not only contribute to the district’s burgeoning culture industry but are also poised to become new landmark buildings in the district.
For instance, the C Future Park, set to open in Sungang in 2023, represents Shenzhen’s first complex devoted entirely to design and creative industries. It covers an area of 60,000 square meters with a construction area of 560,000 square meters.
“Shenzhen has a good innovation and creative base,” said Lyu Hua, project leader of C Future Lab, a subproject of the C Future Park. “Sungang has the highest vitality index and highest density of creative design industry. To attract more design and creative talents, it is necessary to build such an international design center. And Sungang and Luohu have the best chance to do this.”
Data shows that in 2020, Luohu was home to more than 500 enterprises in the cultural sector with revenues that exceeded 20 million yuan ($3.1 million) each and that their total revenue was more than 70 billion yuan.
Moreover, in 2020, the added value of Luohu’s cultural and related industries was 15.71 billion yuan, accounting for 6.6% of its GDP. There are 10 cultural industrial parks, of which two are national-level, one is provincial-level and the other seven are municipal-level.
However, in the process of urban renovation, Luohu has worked to maintain its historical charm and takes care to protect its cultural heritage and places of historical interest.
For instance, many key parts of the Hubei old village and Kingway Brewery were conserved during urban renovation projects, to retain the “collective memory” of the city’s residents.
