Shawan River epitomizes Luohu’s successes in protecting the environment
Connecting the Shenzhen River to the Shenzhen Reservoir from end to end, the Shawan River in Luohu discharges floodwater and forms a major ecological corridor in the city of Shenzhen.
The river also connects Donghu Lake Park, Luohu Sports Leisure Park and Luohu Stadium, creating an ideal leisure and ecological corridor for local residents.
To ensure the stream flows steadily, Luohu set up two supply depots in its upper reaches, which can supply 33,000 cubic meters of water to the river each day.
Shanwan River assumes an important role in water pollution treatment and building a sponge city in Shenzhen. Likewise, the sponge city project has added a total green space of 66,845 square meters to the city.
Throughout the project, the Luohu district government conducted extensive consultations with local residents, collating their opinions on the river’s design and function. To meet the locals’ needs, the project built four rest stations, fitness equipment, and entertainment facilities for children along the river, forming a landscape system and a leisure network.
A total of seven water level monitoring terminals were also installed along the river, forming a flood control and early warning system. The relevant data is connected in real time to Luohu’s smart platform of water affairs management, so that the platform staff can get information in a timely manner and make proper responses.
The river and the ecological corridor are managed through coordinated and effective efforts by a river chief and relevant government departments.
Luohu pays great attention to the maintenance of the Shawan ecological corridor. It has strengthened the management and supervision of 23 drain outlets along the river to ensure that no polluted water is discharged into the flow.
