Three schools recognized as pioneers in science and technology innovation education
Luohu has recently recognized a further three “science and technology innovation education characteristic schools.”
The three schools are Cuiyuan Middle School for its sci-tech inventions, Luoling Foreign Language Experimental School for its comprehensive research projects, and Bibo Primary School for its STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) courses.
Cuiyuan Middle School puts sci-tech inventions at the core of its education, helping improve students' innovation through systematic training, interactive practice, school-enterprise cooperation, and other means.
The school has built a multi-dimensional and multi-level scientific and technological innovation education system. Over the past three years, the school has obtained eight national patents, nine national awards, and 14 provincial and seven municipal prizes for sci-tech invention competitions.
Luoling Foreign Language Experimental School makes comprehensive research projects a characteristic of its sci-tech innovation. The projects, ranging from biological studies to programming, are popular among the students, and have won awards of various levels over the years. There are nine makers’ organizations in creative design, experiment and programming in the school, which have won a number of awards at different levels.
Following the philosophy of “happy education,” Bibo Primary School is committed to scientific and technological innovation education, and to the cultivation mode of “diversity, individuality and innovation.” This helps it create a style of “independent, cooperative and joyful learning.”
In addition to the national compulsory courses in science and technology, the school also has STEAM courses in the form of group discussion and research in classes in grades three and four.
Over the past few years, the school has been evaluated as a model school of Shenzhen’s class reforms as well as a maker base of Luohu and an experimental sister school with partners from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The “sci-tech innovation education characteristic schools” of Luohu is a project jointly launched by the Luohu Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, the Luohu Education Bureau and the Luohu Association of Science and Technology (LAST), with the aim of exploring primary and middle schools’ potential in sci-tech innovation, encouraging the schools to strengthen education in science and technology, and cultivating more young talented people.
The LAST rolled out 13 science and technology courses in schools across the district in 2019, benefiting more than 2,000 students. Last year, four schools were recognized as the first batch of “science and technology innovation education characteristic schools” in Luohu.
