World champions inspire more students to chase sports dreams in Luohu
The Luohu Education Bureau held an activity called “meeting the world champions” in Liannan Primary School on Dec. 8.
Feng Jian, deputy district mayor of the Luohu District People's Government, Yin Gang, chief of the Luohu Education Bureau, and several other officials took part in the activity.
Yu Yang, a 2008 Beijing Olympic Games women's doubles badminton champion and a badminton teaching and research staff member of Luohu Educational Science Research Institute, and Luo Pan, champion of the World Shuttlecock Championship and a PE teacher of Liannan Primary School, were invited to speak with students face to face during the activity.
After showing their badminton and shuttlecock skills, the two world champions shared the experience behind their gold medals, and told the students that their own success came from the following of their dreams and hard work.
Luohu then launched a badminton program in its seven schools that will bring badminton to PE classes and student associations. Yu said that, as the first Olympic champion introduced by Shenzhen’s education system, she will act as a role model to popularize the sport, and encourage more children to play badminton and enjoy the pleasure coming with it.
The seven schools where the program was launched were Luohu Foreign Language School, Luohu Foreign Language Junior Middle School, Sungang Middle School, Luoling Foreign Language Experimental School, Yijing Primacy School, Anfang Primary School and Luohu Primary School.
Yin Gang hoped that the world champions will be suitable role models for their respective sports, so that more children can participate in, love and enjoy sports.
He wished that the students can draw inspiration from the “champion spirit”, which includes never giving up, always striving for the better, and fearing no setbacks. Schools are also expected to make more time for students to exercise and advance the high-quality development of campus sports.
In addition, Luohu inspires students to manage their time scientifically to ensure that they have at least one hour a day to do exercises.
In April, Luohu’s campus football training program was evaluated by the Education Ministry as one of the top four of its kind in the country. Students from Luohu also perform well in track and field events, football, basketball and sailing, among other sports.
