Garbage reduction activities held in Luohu
Luohu launched a series of public activities to raise emissions reduction awareness on Nov. 6, and to mark Shenzhen’s "Garbage Reduction Day" which took place Nov. 8.
On the morning of Nov. 6, a family carnival was held in the West Gate Square of Cuizhu Park. More than 40 children participated in a flea market, where they could sell their used items, including toys, books and handicrafts, reminding their fellow residents about the importance of leading low-waste lives.
The children came up with unique ways of spreading their messages such as through dancing, singing and painting.
In the creative do-it-yourself area on the square, children turned old clothes, discarded packaging boxes, and other recycled materials into useful items for daily life, proving that household waste can be so much more.
Participants also traded items they no longer wanted or needed with each other both on-site and online.
A woman surnamed Tu who participated in the activity said that it highlighted the value of recycling discarded items at home, which in turn leads to less waste, and called the activity very meaningful.
Apart from Cuizhu Park, there were another nine sessions and activities planned in Huangbei, Dongmen, Guiyuan, Nanhu, Sungang, Donghu, Liantang, Dongxiao and Qingshuihe.
