Luohu launches months-long activities to raise health awareness
The first Healthy Luohu Activity Month organized by the office of the Healthy Luohu Initiative Promotion Committee kicked off in July and will go through September.
The months-long activities feature events organized in neighborhoods, schools and private enterprises covering everything from health lectures and seminars to knowledge contests, attended by health experts, veteran medical workers and local residents. It’s part and parcel of wider efforts by the public health departments of Luohu to raise their constituents’ awareness on a range of health-related issues, which has greatly improved over the past few years.
Deputy district mayor of the Luohu District government, Chen Longxing, attended the opening ceremony.
On July 9 and July 13, Xiong Zhenwen, a doctor at the Sungang community healthcare center, delivered a presentation to local residents on how elderly populations can maintain their oral health.
Likewise, Zhang Hui, a nutrition expert with the Luohu Hospital Group, explained to senior residents how to enjoy a healthy, balanced diet, especially for those with high blood pressure, hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia.
July 13 saw Zhang Xuejun, a health counselor with the Luohu Hospital Group, held a first aid class for older residents.
The Luohu Public Health Bureau also organized lectures on how elderly people can stay fit, both physically and mentally, and the importance of adhering to relevant COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control measures.
The Association of the Aged People in Nanhu sub-district launched 16 online health lectures and invited doctors from various departments of the Luohu Hospital Group to deliver lectures via different WeChat groups for local residents.
Meanwhile, beginning July 19 Luohu provided daycare services in four schools, and the Luohu Public Health Bureau invited experts on juvenile mental health and public health to the schools to organize activities geared towards raising young people’s awareness of eyesight protection, mental health and basic first aid knowledge, among others.
Lastly, the district has held 11 health knowledge contests this year, which has encouraged people to pay more attention to health-related issues.
Liu Ling, a researcher with the Luohu Public Health Bureau, said raising people’s health awareness is an effective way to improve their overall wellbeing.
