Luohu and SUSTech cooperation boosts high-quality development

The Luohu district government signed a cooperation agreement with the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) on July 16.
Fan Defan, deputy head of the Luohu government, and Wang Susheng, a member of the presidential office of SUSTech, signed the agreement at the ceremony being witnessed by SUSTech president Xue Qikun, Luo Yude, Luohu Party chief, and other officials of relevant departments.
The two sides will give full play to their respective strengths in cooperation in finance, commerce, commercial services, strategic emerging industries, gold and jewelry industries and cultural creative industries.
Luohu hopes to make breakthroughs in commercialization and industrialization of new innovation fruits through the cooperation.
The district plans to become an all-embracing hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and, in that process, Luohu intends to take advantages of all resources available to build a modern industrial system.
As a prestigious university, SUSTech pays special attention to developing inter-disciplinary talents. It is building a school of innovation and creative design, while Luohu is also trying its best to attract such talents, particularly for the gold and jewelry industries, especially in building platforms for exchanges of young people in the Greater Bay Area.
Both sides believe their cooperation can tap into their complementarity, and inject new vitality to the regions.
Luo Yude said Luohu has a good business environment, and is now providing a good stage for talents to start their own businesses to make investment. He hoped Luohu could take advantage of SUSTech’s strengths in research and education to strive for win-win results, promote deep integration of research and industries, and cultivate more talents through opening new schools, so as to boost the upgrading of Luohu’s industries and promote the district’s high-quality development.
On behalf of the university, Xue Qikun expressed his gratitude to Luohu for its support to and approval of SUSTech. He said it is also the university’s mission and need to serve the development of the region.
Xue expected that the cooperation would give rise to more new platforms and new mechanisms to promote the region’s development through more concrete actions.
The cooperation would start from jointly building a jewelry design school so as to contribute to Luohu becoming more competitive in the industry worldwide. Luohu also hoped more design talents would help promote the high-quality development of its construction and costume industries.
