Luohu to expedite renovation of Dongmen pedestrian street
Zhang Feimeng, chief of the Commerce Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, said on July 13 the city will not only become a world-class consumption center, but also be able to provide quality commodities, a first-class consumption environment and experiences, as well as advanced consumption models.
The bureau issued a draft regulation on the city’s commercial development to solicit public opinions in April. According to it, Shenzhen plans to build world-class shopping zones.
And one of the two key commercial zones among projects the city is building is located in Luohu.
Luohu will carry out the 26 policies proposed by the document to upgrade its commercial infrastructure and improve its business environment.
The document requires Luohu to expedite its transformation and upgrading of Dongmen pedestrian street.
Zhang said the opening of the flagship of Wenheyou, featuring many popular restaurants, in Dongmen, has promoted the revitalization of the oldest pedestrian street in Shenzhen.
“It will take about two years to renovate and upgrade the street. The project will follow a step-by-step model to avoid large scale demolition and minimize the disturbance to businesses, so as to better protect places of historical interest and historical landmark buildings of Shenzhen, and make it a popular fashion shopping destination for young consumers,” he said.
Shenzhen’s annual shopping season starts in August, lasting three months.
