Cross-border payment with digital RMB tested in Luohu
Test work for Hong Kong residents using digital renminbi on the Chinese mainland has been concluded in Luohu district under the guidance of the Shenzhen municipal government and the People's Bank of China's Shenzhen central branch.
This is part of national efforts to steadily promote research and development of digital currencies.
Hong Kong residents who frequently or occasionally travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen have been involved in the trial.
Ms. Liang, a Hong Kong permanent resident, has been working in Shenzhen for a long time. She purchased a necklace worth 2,000 yuan with digital currency. "It is my first time to use digital renminbi, it's very convenient to exchange and pay," she said.
The test showed that Hong Kong residents can anonymously register for five types of digital purses and conduct petty consumption activities.
It has successfully created a scenario featuring cross-border payment with digital renminbi, further expanded the application range and proved that the digital renminbi purse could be convenient, safe and anonymous. It will facilitate cross-border consumption for Hong Kong residents and lay a solid foundation for digital renminbi's cross-border circulation in future.
