Luohu wraps up campaign against organized crime
Since the central authorities launched a three-year campaign against gang crime in 2018, Luohu has cracked 447 cases related to organized crime and 20 mafia-like organizations, according to the district government.
More than 2,000 people have been detained in these cases that involve illegal funds of 186 million yuan ($28.83 million).
Luohu attaches great importance to its anti-mafia campaign, and senior officials of the district’s relevant authorities have been put in direct charge.
The campaign was carried out in a step-by-step manner. In 2018, information was gathered to build up a picture of organized crimes and crack down on them; in 2019, the roots and protective umbrellas of the gangs were dealt with; in 2020, a long-term prevention mechanism was formed.
The purpose of this campaign is, as the central authorities have pointed out, is to create a safe environment for development and guarantee the peace so that the people can enjoy a stronger sense of gain and happiness in the process of building Luohu into an all-embracing hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Notably, Luohu’s effective practices and experience in cracking down on illegal online loan activities, and prompting property management enterprises to take part in grassroots social governance have been recognized by the central authorities, and recommended to other local authorities across the country.
