On July 30, legislators and political advisors of Shenzhen, architects and representatives of local residents visited the Liantang Port, which is to be opened soon, at the invitation of the Bureau of Public Works of Shenzhen Municipality.
The port has just passed the acceptance check of the national authorities, which means it is ready to be put into operation at any time. It will be Shenzhen’s seventh port to facilitate exchanges with the neighboring Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The visitors, who are employed by the bureau as government project social supervisors, suggested that the bureau should sum up its experience in balancing the construction and managing the COVID-19 pandemic while building the port so that it can be rolled out citywide.
A key project in the respective national, regional and provincial development plans, the port is located in the southwestern corner of the jurisdiction of the Liantang sub-district office of Luohu.

With a total investment of 1.55 billion yuan ($222 million), the port covers an area of 174,000 square meters. Its total construction area is 137,000 square meters. The construction of the port began on Nov. 11, 2015.
The port can handle 30,000 passengers and 17,850 vehicles a day at most. It has 27 passenger aisles, among which six are manually operated, and the rest is automatic, along with 11 aisles for vehicles, among which seven are for trucks and four are for passenger vehicles.
By adopting the “one-stop customs clearance” model of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the port will also give a full play to advanced technology to improve the customs clearance efficiency — the time it takes to pass through the port can be shortened to 10-15 seconds.
