The community canteens for the elderly in Luohu are becoming popular among young people because of their affordable prices, tasty food, and convenience due to their proximity to the people’s homes.
These canteens were initially set up for senior residents. There are also volunteers in charge of sending the meals to the homes of the elderly with mobility issues. Now they are open to all customers, and elderly citizens can buy food at subsidized prices thanks to the government’s assistance.
Shenzhen rolled out a work plan in 2019 to build community canteens for the elderly citywide. Now there are 195 such canteens in the city.
