New move to promote cross-border consumption with digital RMB
Luohu recently launched the first e-CNY self-service machine that can issue digital RMB cards. Consumers from Hong Kong can turn their Hong Kong dollars into digital RMB cards through the Octopus App and go for shopping in the district.
With the cards, shoppers can enjoy 20% discounts on participating goods in Luohu with a maximum discount of 200 yuan ($29.1) per person.
This is the latest effort of the district government to promote consumption, investing 10 million yuan in digital RMB in consumption subsidies.
This is also the first digital RMB cross-border all-domain consumption program. It will be conducive to fostering the habit of digital RMB payment among groups who frequently travel between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, promoting the recognition of digital RMB payment among Hong Kong residents, and laying the foundation for sustainable application of digital RMB in the field of cross-border consumption.
