Luohu promotes consumption with digital RMB

Shenzhen’s Luohu district will hold a digital RMB consumption festival on Feb. 11 to promote consumption between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
The district will offer 10 million yuan ($1.47 million) in digital RMB red envelops to residents, including visitors from Hong Kong, who can apply through a WeChat mini-program. The amount of money each red envelope contains will range from 200 yuan to 999 yuan.
The red envelops can be used for eating in restaurants, booking a room in hotels, shopping in supermarkets, purchasing jewelry and home appliances, and so on in the five major shopping zones of Luohu: Dongmen, Caiwuwei, Sungang, Shuibei, and Renmin South.
