Elderly assistance facilities make life easier for senior citizens in Luohu
More than 2,000 families with disabled family members aged 60 or above in Shenzhen have received subsidies up to 10,000 yuan (US$1,379) each from the government since 2020 to install life assistance facilities, like guardrails and voice-activated sensor lights, at home to make life easier and safer.
The program's purpose is to help older adults live in a safer and more suitable home environment, reduce the burden of family care, and improve the quality of life, safety, and happiness at home.
Luohu district’s civil affairs bureau provides installation services for families. There are dozens of facilities on its list, including bedside armrests, bathroom seats, intelligent pagers and specially equipped tables. The bureau intensively consults with the families to know about their specific needs and gives them professional advice on using the devices.
