Luohu holds activity to promote waste sorting and reduction
The Luohu Urban Management and Comprehensive Law Enforcement Bureau and Nanhu’s sub-district office jointly organized a publicity activity on the morning of Nov. 6 to raise the public’s awareness of household waste reduction. Nov. 8 marks the annual Waste Reduction Day in Shenzhen.
Themed “exchange the new style,” the organizers of the activity set up some booths where people could barter, recycle and transform their used materials and items, believing that the used items could gain new lives with new owners or in new places.
Nearly 100 residents sold their old books and stationery on the site, turning the activity into a booming street market. Children were encouraged to learn about garbage sorting, recycling, and how to transform old items into valuable things.
Xiao Youmei, a municipal lawmaker, spoke highly of the activity, and told the media that through edutainment, this activity allows residents to participate in garbage classification and reduction, which is conducive to making the concept of garbage classification more popular and meaningful.
