Luohu works hard to advance ecological conservation
Luohu has taken full advantage of its abundant water and mountain resources to advance ecological conservation in recent years.
To that end, the district authorities have tried to balance ecological resource preservation and social and economic development.
Take the improvement of air quality as an example. The PM2.5 concentration in the district has decreased from 29 micrograms per cubic meter in 2017 to 18 in 2021.
More encouragingly, by the end of September this year, the concentration of PM2.5 in Luohu had fallen further to 15.1 micrograms per cubic meter, the best level in history.
Luohu is the first district in Guangdong province to explore an alternative restoration system through which emissions can be offset by purchasing certified emissions reductions.
The district has also priced its ecological resources and rolled out a plan to calculate its gross ecosystem product (GEP) to better reflect the conditions of its ecology and natural environment.
Luohu has also strengthened its law enforcement work to ensure that relevant laws and rules are implemented fully to protect the environment.
