Luohu makes progress in household garbage classification
On Sept. 29, Luohu Deputy Mayor Xiao Jiarui introduced the district's experience, achievements and characteristics in carrying out household garbage classification work over the past two years.
Following the concept of "whole-chain construction, whole-process management, and whole-society governance," the Luohu district government has made every effort to promote garbage classification work in its jurisdiction. It has established nine diversion and classification systems for the work, and the recycling rate of household garbage in the district has increased from 45% last year to 51% at present.
Sept. 1, this year, marked the second anniversary of the promulgation and implementation of the Regulations on the Classification of Household Waste in Shenzhen. Over the past two years, the city's garbage classification work has made remarkable progress. By the end of August this year, household garbage recycling and utilization rates reached 48.1% and 87.7%, respectively, ranking among the top in the country.
According to Xiao, increasing kitchen waste classification rate has been a major focus of Luohu’s garbage classification work this year and the field where the most significant progress has been made.
Luohu has increased the kitchen waste classification rate from 19.4% in January to 25.62% in August, and kept it above 25% over the past two months.
