Shenzhen airport sees record international travel growth
Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport has reached new heights in international connectivity. According to Shenzhen Immigration Inspection data, the airport recorded a remarkable 200 inbound and outbound flights on December 12, setting a new single-day record for flight volume since the port’s opening.
This year, the airport’s international and regional flight volume surpassed 51,000 flights, a significant year-on-year growth of 62%. The surge reflects Shenzhen’s expanding global trade partnerships, the airport’s enhanced role as an international aviation hub, and the implementation of policies to facilitate cross-border travel. As demand for international tourism, family visits, and business trips continues to rebound, passenger traffic has experienced a robust recovery.
In cargo operations, Shenzhen Airport has launched and increased frequencies on routes to key global destinations such as Dhaka (Bangladesh), Kuching (Malaysia), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Frankfurt (Germany), and Brussels (Belgium). Cargo flights now account for 35% of all international air traffic, reflecting a 23% year-on-year increase. The airport’s cargo network now spans 42 destinations worldwide.
On the passenger side, Shenzhen Airport has added new and resumed routes to Doha (Qatar), Mexico City (Mexico), and Budapest (Hungary). Frequencies have also been increased on popular routes to Tokyo (Japan), Bangkok (Thailand), and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Passenger flights now account for 65% of international air traffic, registering an impressive 98% year-on-year growth. Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport now connects travelers to 45 international passenger destinations.
