Shenzhen’s logistics system prepares for travel rush
Shenzhen’s airport, railway system, and harbors are preparing for a boom in travel and logistics, projected to follow the recovery of the economy this year.
Meanwhile, the city’s air, land, and sea transport systems are also stepping up their cooperation and strengthening their mutual dockings so as to further improve the operation efficiency of Shenzhen’s entire logistics system, a regional logistic hub in South China and a trade portal for cross-border e-commerce that serves as China’s port to the world.
For instance, Shenzhen’s Yantian Port is currently working together with Chenzhou, Tiling, and Yueyang, all cities in Hunan province, serving as an export port for local export enterprises, whose products, including furniture, toys, electronic products, and photovoltaic glass, are transported to Yantian by railway. The port also has eight other such inland city partners that rely on it for export.
Moreover, a B777 all-cargo plane owned by global aviation giant Qatar Airways took off from Shenzhen Airport on the early morning of Jan. 10 and flew to London Heathrow Airport after stopping in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The flight marked the opening of Shenzhen Airport's first new international cargo route this year, Shenzhen-Doha-London.
At the same time, Qatar Airways' weekly cargo route to Maastricht in the Netherlands, after stopping in Doha, also resumed service. As a result, Qatar Airways’s weekly capacity at Shenzhen Airport has increased from one to three flights, and the outbound capacity has increased to more than 300 tons per week. The connecting transportation capacity between Shenzhen Airport and Europe has further improved, which will better meet the export demand of Shenzhen’s cross-border e-commerce.
Statistics show that nearly 70% of cross-border e-commerce enterprises are located in South China at present, and Shenzhen is not only a cross-border e-commerce base but also a transport hub for the region. The city will continue to give full play to the leading edge of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to consolidate its status in the country’s cross-border e-commerce industry.
