Shenzhen to build underground "cities"
The Shenzhen Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources recently issued a draft plan for using the city's underground space resources until 2035.
The plan aims to offer practical guidance for the protection and sustainable utilization of the city's underground space resources, optimize the urban spatial structure, improve the urban spatial function, and enhance the city's total carrying capacity.
Shenzhen will make use of these underground spaces to build underground "cities" in 45 key areas, particularly shopping centers, to become a global model of a vibrant three-dimensional city by 2035, according to the draft plan.
