CUHK-Shenzhen School of Artificial Intelligence launched
On Feb. 13, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen officially launched the School of Artificial Intelligence, with plans to enroll its first batch of students in September 2025. The new school aims to establish a world-class interdisciplinary research and education platform, leveraging the industrial advantages of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the university’s strong international presence. The curriculum will offer an undergraduate AI program as well as a Master-PhD track in AI Philosophy.
Dean Fan Jianqing emphasized that the school will focus on advancing AI as a frontier discipline, deepening core AI capabilities, and building a globally influential academic ecosystem. The institution is committed to fostering interdisciplinary AI applications, driving innovation across multiple fields to meet the needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and national development strategies. Additionally, the school seeks to cultivate top-tier talent with international perspectives, strong innovation capabilities, and a deep sense of social responsibility, and equip them to use AI for real-world problem-solving.
The academic focus will center on computer science, mathematics, statistics, and cognitive science, encouraging students to transcend traditional academic boundaries. AI applications will be integrated into fundamental sciences, medicine, robotics, finance, business, management, and social sciences, promoting technological innovation and industrial integration.
