Shenzhen-Mexico City direct air route launched
On May 11, a direct air route linking south China's Shenzhen with Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, was launched.
Stretching over 14,000 kilometers, with a flight time of approximately 16 hours, this route stands as the longest direct air link from China to Latin America. Operated by China Southern Airlines, this route not only sets the record as China's longest direct international passenger flight but also ranks among the top ten longest direct passenger routes worldwide.
The new Shenzhen-Mexico City route, operated by China Southern Airlines, will offer two flights per week. Departing as flight CZ8031 every Tuesday and Saturday at 21:00 local time from Shenzhen, it arrives in Mexico City at 23:00 local time. The return flight CZ8032 operates every Wednesday and Sunday, departing Mexico City at 01:00 local time, making a technical stopover in Tijuana, and arriving in Shenzhen at 12:20 local time the following day.
In recent years, economic cooperation between China and Latin America has surged. Mexico City, as the capital of Mexico, holds significant political, economic, and financial importance in Latin America. With China being Mexico's second-largest trading partner and Mexico being China's second-largest trading partner in Latin America, bilateral cooperation between the two nations has flourished. The opening of the Shenzhen-Mexico City passenger route will better cater to the diverse needs of tourism and business between the two countries, further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Previously, travelers flying from China to Mexico or other Latin American countries often had to endure one or two stopovers in countries such as Japan, South Korea, North America, or Europe, with some transit points requiring transit visas and travel times lasting 30 to 40 hours. With the opening of this route, the direct flight to Mexico City reduces travel time to just 16 hours, significantly shortening the journey.
Shenzhen's advanced manufacturing and innovative technology industries complement Mexico's manufacturing sectors, including automobiles, home appliances, electronics, machinery, and construction materials, creating a mutually beneficial industrial synergy. Several high-tech companies from Shenzhen have expanded into the Mexican market, integrating into the local supply chain. In addition to the newly opened passenger route, Shenzhen Airport had previously established a freight route to Mexico City, with four cross-border e-commerce flights operating weekly, providing a total weekly capacity of over 400 tons.
The opening of the Shenzhen-Mexico City passenger route will further enhance and promote exchanges and cooperation between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Latin America, fostering mutual development.
