First-stage project of SYU Shenzhen campus concluded
The first-stage project of the Shenzhen campus of Sun Yat-sen University was concluded this month. The campus opened for media on June 18 and 19.
The overall construction style of the campus maintains the cultural essence of the university’s old campus’ academy architecture in Guangzhou. Its planning and design adhere to the construction concept of sustainable development, green ecology, and a “growth” campus. The aim was to build an ecological campus that integrates with the local landscape.
The wide application of sponge technology in the construction of the campus is a highlight of the project. The design team optimized the original river, improved the water system and the natural landscape on both sides of the river, and built a vibrant green campus with a combination of mountains and rivers.
The first-stage project includes eight teaching buildings and 298 public classrooms, of which more than 85% are wisdom classrooms, as well as five public experimental teaching platforms and 75 undergraduate teaching laboratories. The university has purchased 33,000 sets of related equipment for the campus so far, which provides an excellent environment for students' scientific research practice.
In the planning of functional zones, the campus adopts an innovative composite layout, and various public communication and sharing spaces can be seen throughout.
The Shenzhen campus also includes student dormitories, faculty apartments, swimming pools, and gymnasiums, among other spaces.
The Shenzhen campus will fully meet the needs of the development of Shenzhen's high-tech industry, promote the city and university to sign a new round of strategic cooperation agreements as soon as possible and accelerate the construction of various supporting facilities on the campus, according to Gao Song, president of SYU.
He added that the university will further strengthen cooperation with universities in Hong Kong and Macao and enhance the level of international exchanges and cooperation among the schools.
