Household waste sorting ‘museum’ raises public awareness on green development
May 22 is International Day for Biological Diversity and the first day of the first national awareness week on the sorting of municipal household waste. Shenzhen's first “near-zero-emissions” carbon cycle science museum was officially inaugurated in Yantian district on May 22.
The museum is located in the circular economy and environmental protection science education base of Yantian, covering an area of nearly 300 square meters.
Relying on the premise of household waste sorting, the project focuses on creating a new ecological cycle model in the neighborhood.
The daily disposal capacity of the museum is three tons. It is estimated that the annual carbon emissions reduced via the project is equivalent to planting more than 7,000 trees.
The “products” of the project can also be used efficiently as husbandry feed and farmland fertilizer.
The opening of the museum is conducive to helping teenagers raise their awareness about garbage classification and carbon emissions reductions.
