‘Tale of two cities’ sheds light on modern urban development
The 9th Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture opened in Shenzhen on Dec. 10.
Hundreds of artists from 15 countries and regions are taking part in the event that is focused on urban cosmologies and will run until March next year.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region John Lee pointed out that Hong Kong and Shenzhen have worked together for many years to explore the future of the cities through the biennial bi-city exhibition, which is rich in creativity and foresight.
Lee said that the establishment of such an exchange platform for city connectivity and innovation is an example of Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland strengthening collaboration for shared development.
Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong said that Shenzhen looks forward to taking the event as an opportunity to deepen cooperation with Hong Kong and strengthen exchanges and mutual learning in the field of urban planning and construction. The city will fully carry forward the pioneering spirit of architects in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, promote interdisciplinary dialogues and exchanges in architecture, art, history and literature, and facilitate the preservation and regeneration of old urban buildings.
Qin noted that the two cities will jointly explore strategies and actions to help realize carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and make greater contributions to building a quality environment suitable for living, working and traveling, and building a world-class Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and world-class city cluster.
