Education cooperation tells a new tale of Shenzhen and Hong Kong
China’s first Shenzhen-Hong Kong postdoctoral joint training program was recently launched.
The Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences will work with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to recruit and train postdoctoral fellows.
The program opens a new chapter in the cultivation of high-level talents between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
The signing ceremony for the program was carried out online.
The program breaks the previous mode of sending selected postdoctoral fellows from the Chinese mainland to Hong Kong and Macao for training. It now oversees the training of postdoctoral fellows in both the mainland and Hong Kong, realizing the recognition of the postdoctoral experience in the two areas.
This is conducive to efficiently linking high-quality higher education resources in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, boosting talent cultivation, and serving the technological innovation and development of the two cities.
Over the past five years, the number of postdoctoral students attracted to Shenzhen has increased by 24% annually on average. By the end of Oct. 2022, there were 5,098 postdoctoral students in the city, ranking among the top large and medium-sized cities in China. There are more than 560 postdoctoral research mobile stations, workstations (sub-stations), innovation and practice bases, and other related units in the city.
