Shenzhen doubles industrial output in past decade
Shenzhen's industrial output value above the designated size rose from 2 trillion yuan ($296.2 billion) in 2011 to more than 4.1 trillion yuan in 2021, ranking the first among large and medium-sized cities on the Chinese mainland. Its output doubled in 10 years, making Shenzhen the country's largest industrial city for three years in a row.
The added value of Shenzhen's industry continues to increase by a large margin. It exceeded 1 trillion yuan last year, an increase of 5% from the previous year, which highlights the city’s more robust growth drivers and stronger resilience.
Thanks to Shenzhen's proactive actions, it has bred new opportunities in a crisis, stabilized the manufacturing industry's basic situation, guaranteed the manufacturing industry's space, and made enterprises more confident and hopeful about the future of the real economy.
Last year, the added value of Shenzhen's manufacturing sector accounted for more than 30% of its gross domestic product, higher than the national average. Over 70% came from advanced manufacturing, especially high-tech manufacturing. The profits of industrial enterprises above the designated level increased by 23.7% despite difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the city government's plan, the added value of Shenzhen's strategic emerging industries will exceed 1.5 trillion yuan by 2025, which will become the main engine for high-quality economic and social development in the city.
