Shenzhen marks products' carbon footprints
China's Certification and Accreditation Administration has recently approved Shenzhen's proposal to work together with Hong Kong to identify and certify products' carbon footprints.
The Shenzhen Academy of Metrology & Quality Inspection will be in charge of implementing the work.
According to the academy, by establishing a unified carbon footprint evaluation standard system, Shenzhen can build carbon footprint evaluation methodology and criteria, which will be conducive to helping policymakers understand the whole life cycle of industry in the proportion of greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, these efforts will accelerate industrial upgrading, optimize the industrial structure, and further strengthen the internationalization of China's carbon footprint work.
As a pilot city in carbon emissions trading, Shenzhen will take this opportunity to take the lead in conducting carbon footprint identification and certification work to pool efforts from all stakeholders to cut emissions.
