Shenzhen records over 240 million border crossings in 2024
According to the Shenzhen General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection, over 240 million border crossings were recorded in Shenzhen in 2024, along with inspections of more than 11.29 million vehicles, vessels, aircraft, and trains. Both figures are the highest in the nation, reflecting year-on-year growth of 45.6% and 38.9%, respectively.
In 2024, China continued to optimize its regional visa-free and transit visa-free policies. These efforts included five rounds of expanding the visa-free countries and the successful implementation of the 240-hour transit visa-free policy. Coupled with a series of measures to streamline border crossing procedures, these policies contributed to the steady increase in cross-border travel at Shenzhen ports.
Among the key ports, Luohu, Futian, and Shenzhen Bay emerged as the busiest, with peak daily passenger flows of 270,000, 238,000, and 164,000, respectively. As the newest land port between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, Liantang Port facilitated over 26.6 million border crossings, with its daily average passenger volume reaching 2.4 times its designed capacity.
The West Kowloon Station Port of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link saw over 26.87 million border crossings, representing a year-on-year increase of 34.7%. Travelers from Hong Kong can now reach 80 mainland destinations directly by high-speed rail.
