Shenzhen schools welcome students on first day of new academic year
As the new academic year begins, schools across Shenzhen are welcoming students with a variety of heartwarming and unique opening ceremonies to create a joyful, peaceful, and orderly atmosphere for the first day of school.
On Monday morning, parents dressed up as colorful cartoon characters stood at the gate of Luoling Foreign Language Experimental School to greet each student. The unexpected sight brought smiles and excitement, with students eagerly greeting their parents and taking photos together. Many children shared high-fives with the animated characters, adding to the festive spirit.
For students at the newly established Future School in Pingshan District, the biggest surprise on the first day was the brand-new rest area. The school, which offers nine years of continuous education, features rest rooms designed for middle school students, accommodating 4 to 5 students per room, each equipped with a private bathroom, scenic balcony, and modern amenities like bunk beds with study desks. Younger students have the option of adjustable reclining chairs, allowing them to find their most comfortable position, or shared rest rooms, providing a safe and cozy communal space for napping.
At Lianhua Primary School in Futian District, the first day of school was marked by a special ceremony called "Ritual of Enlightenment," aimed at immersing new students in the rich tradition of Chinese culture. Dressed in traditional Hanfu, first graders walked through the symbolic "Lingxing Gate," representing knowledge and wisdom. Under the guidance of teachers, students adjusted their attire, performed a traditional bow, and paid respects to their teachers and parents. Principal Wang Huabin, along with first-grade teachers, applied a red dot of cinnabar on each student's forehead, symbolizing the awakening of wisdom. Following this, under the patient instruction of a calligraphy teacher, the students practiced writing the simple yet meaningful Chinese character for "person", marking the beginning of their educational journey.
Also on Monday, Futian Foreign Language Primary School Principal Xu Wanxing, along with school staff and teachers, handed out special Olympic gifts to students, encouraging them to pursue their dreams with the same spirit as Olympians. The school also set up a "Student Message Board" in the lobby, where students eagerly wrote down their goals for the new school year.
