Shenzhen charges ahead in exporting new energy vehicles
Shenzhen Customs data shows that from January to April this year, Shenzhen exported electric vehicles worth 5.07 billion yuan. With leading breakthroughs in smart manufacturing technologies for new energy vehicles (NEVs), along with complete and stable industrial and supply chains, Shenzhen has hit the fast-forward button on its global outreach in this sector.
Shenzhen's confidence in fostering the NEV industry stems from its strong industrial chain, which continues to expand as the automotive industry develops. In 2023, China’s exports of the “new trio,” namely electric vehicles, photovoltaic products, and lithium-ion batteries, surpassed 1 trillion yuan for the first time. Customs data revealed that in 2023, one out of every three vehicles exported from China was an electric passenger car, with a total export volume of 1.773 million units, marking a growth of 67.1%.
In August 2023, Shenzhen released the "Three-Year Action Plan (2023-2025) to Accelerate the Creation of a New Generation World-Class Automotive City," setting ambitious goals. By 2025, the city aims to be at the forefront of the nation in terms of automotive technology levels, application scenarios, and scale. Furthermore, the city targets an annual NEV production of over 2 million units by 2025, significantly increasing the global presence of Shenzhen-made vehicles. The output value of the automotive sector is expected to reach 1 trillion yuan.
