The Liantang Subdistrict Office and the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Liantang Fellowship Association hosted a cycling event themed "Shenzhen-Hong Kong United: Green Cycling" on June 1, with 60 cyclists from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong participating.
Liantang subdistrict is home to premium ecological resources such as the Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, Liantang River, and Wutong Mountain, attracting cycling enthusiasts from both cities. To better protect these resources, Liantang Sub-district instituted the forest chief and river chief systems in accordance with provincial and municipal guidelines to enhance forest and river protection.
At the event's opening ceremony, representatives from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong were awarded honorary titles of Forest Chief Volunteer Supervisors and River Chief Volunteer Supervisors. This initiative aims to encourage citizens from both cities to join forces in protecting the environment.
The cyclists rode along Luosha Road and Changling Greenway to the source of the Liantang River. While enjoying the benefits of green and healthy travel, they also promoted the concept of a green, low-carbon lifestyle.
"Previously, cycling was just a hobby for me, but now I use it to spread awareness about ecological protection to my friends," said Chen, a student from Shenzhen University Bicycle Association. He added that participating in this event was a significant experience, allowing him to connect with cycling enthusiasts from both Shenzhen and Hong Kong and gain a deeper understanding of forest and river protection measures. He hopes to share the concept of ecological conservation with more people.
