Shenzhen's AI industry witnesses thriving development
On April 16th, the "2024 Artificial Intelligence (AI) Development White Paper" was officially released, offering a comprehensive analysis of the current state of the industry and providing forward-looking insights into future trends.
The White Paper highlights Shenzhen's significant achievements in AI policy formulation, industry scale, and technological innovation, solidifying its position as one of China's leading cities in AI development.
In 2023, Shenzhen's AI core industry reached a scale of 38.7 billion yuan, marking a 12.1% year-on-year increase. The city also saw 6,080 AI invention patent applications, securing its second-place ranking among major Chinese cities. By the end of 2023, Shenzhen was home to 1,646 AI-related enterprises, ranking third nationwide. Among them were 97 "little giant" enterprises leveraging special and sophisticated technologies to produce innovative products, alongside 578 small and medium enterprises engaged in similar endeavors.
The White Paper further notes that in 2023, China's AI-related enterprises totaled 9,183, positioning the country as second globally in this regard. The core AI industry in China achieved a scale of 175.1 billion yuan, experiencing an 11.9% year-on-year growth. With nearly 80,000 AI invention patent applications, China maintained its robust innovation momentum. Additionally, by the end of last year, 537 higher education institutions in China were approved to offer undergraduate programs in AI.
