Shenzhen to expect tourism boom during Chinese New Year holiday
Tourism orders in Shenzhen during the Chinese New Year holiday have grown more than sevenfold compared to the previous year. The Chinese New Year has now evolved into a routine for outbound travel, becoming a vital component of the new consumption trend. The 2024 Chinese New Year is anticipated to mark the first peak in tourism for the year.
As a prominent tourism destination and source, Shenzhen has initiated a cultural and tourism carnival. Districts in the city has curated over 200 cultural and tourism activities based on its unique characteristics. Leading technology companies such as Huawei, BYD, Tencent, and DJI have also opened their doors to the public, showcasing their facilities and organizing related cultural and tourism events.
According to data from Ctrip, popular domestic destinations during the Chinese New Year include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Harbin, Chengdu, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Sanya, and Kunming. Notably, travel orders from Shenzhen residents have seen a staggering 754% year-on-year increase.
In terms of outbound travel, the search volume for international flights and inquiries about group tours during the Chinese New Year holiday on the Tongcheng Travel platform have surpassed the levels observed during the same period in 2019. Tuniu Travel predicts that the peak for outbound travel during the Chinese New Year holiday will occur between February 6th and 12th, earlier than the domestic travel peak, with the travel peak expected on February 9th, the Chinese New Year's Eve.
As of now, popular destinations for outbound travel during the Chinese New Year holiday are mainly concentrated in Southeast Asia. Countries like Thailand and Malaysia currently implement visa-free policies for Chinese tourists.
Recent measures to streamline entry procedures, along with policies such as visa exemptions and simplifications for certain countries since 2023, have attracted a significant number of overseas visitors, fueling a vibrant inbound travel market during the Spring Festival.
