Shenzhen tops among China's major cities for air quality
In a recent report on eco-environment preservation, Shenzhen emerges as a frontrunner in safeguarding its ecological surroundings, with air quality outshining that of other super large cities in China. Recognized as a "Biodiversity Charming City" by the UN, Shenzhen takes pride in hosting the world's inaugural International Mangrove Center.
The city boasts an impressive record, with exceptional air quality recorded for approximately 97.8% of the days in a year. Moreover, significant strides have been made in water cleanliness, as 73.9% of the city's 310 rivers are now classified as excellent water bodies.
Shenzhen's commitment to environmental governance is evident in its enhanced system for overseeing the ecological aspects of super large cities, a feat acknowledged through inclusion in the ecological civilization assessment system. Setting a national precedent, Shenzhen introduced the first legislation encompassing the entire spectrum of environmental protection. The city has also earned acclaim for successfully completing the evaluation for the national pilot project of "zero-waste cities."
