Shenzhen a pioneer in carbon emissions
Shenzhen held an activity marking the 10th anniversary of the founding of the country’s first carbon emissions trading platform in the city on June 18.
Shenzhen has attained several records in carbon emissions trading since the China Emissions Exchange (CEEX) opened in the city on June 18, 2013, with its cumulative transaction turnover surpassing 2 billion yuan ($278.7 million).
Analysts pointed out that the CEEX will continue to play a bigger role in the future. Since its opening 10 years ago, Shenzhen's carbon market has been operating in an orderly and stable manner, with remarkable results yielded in structural emissions reduction.
The market has actively explored and innovated in constructing a legal system framework, designing market mechanisms, making carbon financial products, and attracting foreign investors, accumulating rich practical experience. Shenzhen has therefore played an exemplary role in the construction of the national carbon market.
