Shenzhen promotes construction of barrier-free infrastructure
The Shenzhen Disabled Persons’ Federation held an activity on May 21 to help raise public awareness about the building of barrier-free infrastructures and caring for disabled people.
May 21 was the 33rd national day of assisting disabled people in China that was themed “bettering social security institutions and service systems for the disabled to advance comprehensive development the cause of disabled people.”
Participants of the activity said they experienced the difficulties that disabled people encounter in their daily life, and they realized the necessity of showing them their due care.
The construction of a barrier-free environment is demonstrative of a country’s social civilization. In 2021, Shenzhen began to explore a new path of barrier-free construction. The municipal government issued the Regulations on the Construction of Barrier-Free Cities in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and took the lead in putting forward the concept of barrier-free city construction in China, implementing a number of actions.
In addition, the Shenzhen Disabled Persons’ Federation also recently held a job fair, providing 1,520 jobs in the fields of high-tech enterprises, logistics and trade, advanced manufacturing, modern service sectors, and State-owned enterprises for the disabled people. The fair attracted more than 500 disabled job hunters.
