Social security extended to more Hong Kong and Macao residents in Shenzhen
More Hong Kong and Macao residents working, studying, and living in Shenzhen can enjoy the social security of Shenzhen residents, and they can handle relevant procedures conveniently in the service counters opened exclusively for them in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao, according to the Shenzhen government.
Since 2005, residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who are legally employed in Shenzhen and have obtained employment permits have been allowed to participate in the social insurance in Shenzhen. Starting from 2020, unemployed residents and residents with flexible employment from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan living in Shenzhen have been covered under the enterprise employees’ basic old-age pension and basic pension schemes.
The policy is part of the city’s project to enlarge its social security coverage of Hong Kong and Macao residents to prompt the docking of social security affairs across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
As of the end of April, 39,506 residents from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions had taken part in the pension insurance for workers in Shenzhen, and 138 the pension insurance for urban and rural residents.
