Great development achievements made in GBA construction
At a news conference held by the Information Office, People’s Government of Guangdong province on April 19, Zheng Renhao, director of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, introduced the achievements that Guangdong has made in building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
In 2021, the economic aggregate of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) was about 12.6 trillion yuan ($1.96 trillion), an increase of 2.4 trillion yuan compared with 2017. In addition, 25 companies in the GBA have been listed among the Fortune Global 500, eight more than in 2017. Guangdong now has more than 60,000 high-tech enterprises in total, most of which are located in the GBA, an increase of more than 20,000 from 2017.
The GBA demonstrates stronger innovation capacity and is seeing rapid progress in the formation of its open economic institutions, a quality life cycle that offers good living conditions, and job opportunities and tourism resources. In addition, a one-hour life circle has been largely established in the GBA with the development of its modern transportation system. Also, key cooperation platforms have effectively expanded the development space of Hong Kong and Macao, and integrated development among cities in the GBA has expedited productivity.
