Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge: A golden corridor for foreign trade
Since its opening in October 2018, of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) has become a vital trade corridor, with total import and export value through its Zhuhai Highway Port exceeding 1 trillion ($137.29 billion) yuan as of December 2024. This milestone underscores the bridge’s role as a golden corridor for foreign trade, with its vitality continuing to grow.
The port now facilitates trade across all 31 provinces and equivalent administrative units in the Chinese mainland and connects to over 230 countries and regions worldwide. In 2024, trade with emerging markets surged, with year-on-year increases of 27.7% for ASEAN, 47.1% for Latin America, and 30.9% for Africa.
Additionally, the port has become a major hub for cross-border e-commerce, handling nearly 1 million parcels daily. Chinese customs authorities have actively supported e-commerce enterprises in leveraging the bridge for efficient export routes via Hong Kong and Macao’s international airports, further boosting the global reach of "Made in China" products.
From fresh agricultural products to consumer goods, labor-intensive exports, and high-tech innovations, the range of goods passing through the bridge continues to expand. In 2024, exports of textiles and apparel, home appliances, mobile phones, and electric vehicles through the port grew by 51.1%, 43.3%, 34.7%, and 6.6%, respectively.
