The opening performance, "Princess Changping," was adapted and directed by Hu Jiawei, featuring outstanding Cantonese opera actors from the Greater Bay Area, including Jiang Wenduan, Peng Qinghua, and Xiao Yi.
On Tuesday, Cantonese opera actors from Hong Kong, Macau, Zhongshan, Zhaoqing, and Shenzhen will present a compilation of Cantonese opera excerpts, showcasing the artistic achievements and preservation efforts of Cantonese opera troupes and enthusiasts across the Greater Bay Area.
A special youth Cantonese opera exchange performance is also part of this year’s program. On September 28, young Cantonese opera performers from Shenzhen, Foshan, Zhuhai, and other cities will take the stage for a dedicated showcase.
In addition, on September 29, local opera societies and experienced performers from various districts in Shenzhen will participate in an exhibition of outstanding Cantonese opera and Cantonese songs, highlighting the enthusiasm of the city's Cantonese opera fans.
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Shenzhen) Cantonese Opera Week, established by the Publicity Department of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Culture, Media, Tourism and Sports Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, and the Luohu District People’s Government, is a key cultural and intangible heritage project in Shenzhen.
Over the past 20 years, the Cantonese Opera Week has maintained its professionalism and artistic standards while being accessible to the public, bringing Cantonese opera into everyday life and fostering the continuity of this cultural heritage.
A relevant official from Luohu District stated that they will continue to leverage the geographical, cultural, and interpersonal connections of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region to cultivate more cultural exchange brands between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, further strengthening cultural exchanges in the Greater Bay Area and promoting its integrated development.
