Guangdong leads nation with 703,700 patent grants
On May 17, a white paper on Guangdong's intellectual property protection in 2023 was released in Guangzhou. In 2023, Guangdong led the nation with 703,700 patent grants and maintained the top spot in regional innovation for the seventh consecutive year. The Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) retained its position as the second-ranked global hub for scientific and technological innovation.
By the end of 2023, Guangdong received approval for 10 national intellectual property construction pilot demonstration cities, 21 strong county construction pilot demonstration counties, and 8 strong country construction pilot demonstration parks. Guangzhou and Shenzhen were selected as the first cities for the construction of national intellectual property protection demonstration zones, as well as the first national pilot cities for the construction of standardized intellectual property public services.
In accelerating the construction of the manufacturing innovation system, Guangdong received approval for five national-level manufacturing innovation centers, the highest number in the country. "Last year, Guangdong province granted 703,700 patents. By the end of last year, Guangdong had 317,900 high-value invention patents, 281,300 PCT international patent applications, and about 8.44 million valid registered trademarks, all ranking first in China. Guangdong won a total of 282 awards in the 24th China Patent Awards, ranking first in the country," said Gao Guosheng, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Administration for Market Supervision and director of the Guangdong Provincial Intellectual Property Protection Center.
