GBA holds conference to promote talent development
On May 8th, the Second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area High-quality Talent Development Conference was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, aiming to promote the construction of high-quality talent hub in the Greater Bay Area and strengthen cooperation in talent development among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
The event consisted of a keynote speech, the signing of talent cooperation memoranda among the 11 cities in the Greater Bay Area, a special discussion session, and two seminars. Nearly a thousand government institutions, universities, research institutions, and service organizations of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao participated in the event.
During the conference, representatives from the Talent Service Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Talent Development Committee of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, and the human resources and social security bureaus of the nine cities in the Greater Bay Area mainland jointly signed memoranda of talent cooperation. This marked a milestone in the collaboration among the 11 cities in the Greater Bay Area, ushering in a new phase of joint efforts to build a high-quality talent hub.
According to the memorandum, the 11 cities in the Greater Bay Area will establish specialized working groups for talent cooperation, hold regular meetings annually to maintain close communication, jointly promote publicity to showcase development opportunities, conduct overseas recruitment activities to attract international talents, organize talent events to facilitate high-end talent mobility, and jointly promote the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area talent ecosystem, aiming to share talent services and attract international talents to the Greater Bay Area.
Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao have always prioritized talent attraction, respect, and care in every policy and urban development plan. Policies such as the evaluation standards for talents in integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, and big data engineering technologies, as well as measures for the construction of high-skilled talent teams, have been successively introduced. Moreover, various platforms and services have been established to facilitate talent development and innovation, creating a welcoming environment for talents locally and internationally.
Guangdong has established 1,323 post-doctoral research platforms, and hosted entrepreneurship and business startup competition. A total of 16 human resources services and industrial parks and 959 talent stations were set up.
At the conference, the Greater Bay Area cities showcased their talent attraction capabilities. The Guangdong exhibition area attracted a large crowd, featuring comprehensive displays on Guangdong and the nine mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area, industrial innovation, and talent ecology. An exchange activities for Hong Kong and Macao youth talents and on-site presentations by key enterprises of the Greater Bay Area attracted over 1000 young talents from domestic and international top universities.
Various stakeholders, including young entrepreneurs and enterprises, expressed optimism about the future development of the Greater Bay Area. They emphasized the importance of talent policies and supportive environments in their decision to establish businesses or expand operations in the region.
Through continuous efforts and collaboration among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, the Greater Bay Area has seen significant progress in talent exchange and cooperation. Initiatives such as the establishment of innovation and entrepreneurship bases, cross-border talent evaluation cooperation, and expansion of vocational qualification recognition have contributed to the growth of the talent pool in the region.
