Total economic output of the GBA surpassed 14 trillion yuan
In 2023, the total economic output of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) surpassed 14 trillion yuan, contributing roughly one-ninth of the country's total economic output while occupying less than 0.6% of the nation's land mass.
Zhu Wei, deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, stated that in 2018, the GBA's economic output reached 10.8 trillion yuan, marking an impressive growth of 3.2 trillion yuan over the preceding five years. With the continued implementation of the outline development plan for the GBA, Guangdong, in conjunction with Hong Kong and Macao, has expedited the construction of a world-class bay area, showcasing notable achievements.
The GBA is now home to over 75,000 national-level high-tech enterprises, boasting industry leaders such as Huawei, Tencent, BYD, Midea, and Gree. The "Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Guangzhou" technology cluster has consistently ranked second globally for four consecutive years.
Furthermore, significant enhancements have been made to the internal and external connectivity network. The airport cluster within the GBA has an annual passenger throughput capacity exceeding 280 million, while the port cluster handles over 85 million standard containers annually. The airline network spans major cities and trading ports worldwide, facilitating seamless global connections.
