GBA improves people's livelihoods with improved social security services
For eight consecutive years, the Government Work Report has highlighted the GBA, emphasizing the provision of seamless and integrated social security services for its residents. In Zhuhai city's Hengqin area, the social security window assisted 3,512 individuals through 7,127 consultations. Looking ahead, closer connections between residents in Guangdong and Macao are anticipated, with social security departments collaborating more closely to better meet the needs of the residents.
Zhuhai has established the first social security window of a bank in Guangdong province, streamlining the application process for various social security services for residents. In August 2023, the Nansha district's social security center signed a cooperation agreement with Bank of China (Hong Kong) and Bank of China (Guangzhou) to extend social security services to residents in the Greater Bay Area.
Digital technologies have played a pivotal role in providing social security services in the Greater Bay Area. The "Zhuhai Social Security" WeChat Official Account offers online services with an average processing time of about two minutes. Approximately 23,900 people utilize the platform daily, with a total of 2.21 million registered users, making it the most convenient and direct means of accessing relevant services.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the unveiling of the GBA Development Plan, emphasizing the prioritization of livelihood programs and the enhancement of living standards. The plan also aims to create favorable conditions for Hong Kong and Macao residents to study, work, start businesses, and live in the Chinese mainland.
Due to optimized policies, an increasing number of Hong Kong and Macao residents have applied for social security in Guangdong. The "Bay Area Social Security Service" was launched in 2021, and by the end of 2023, over 340,000 Hong Kong and Macao residents had applied for old age, unemployment, and employment injury insurances in Guangdong. To facilitate this, 237 specialized windows were opened in the Pearl River Delta region, along with the establishment of 85 cross-border services stations in Hong Kong and Macao.
